Siemens Science Experience

The 2006 UNSW Siemens Science Experience is scheduled to take place from Wednesday 27th to Friday 29th September. These dates are the last three days before schools break up for Term 3 holidays. The advice from DET's Curriculum Division is that permission for students to attend activities such as TSSE is a school matter ie schools, given parental approval, would give permission for students to attend. Students involved would simply follow a standard local procedure for seeking approval.

UNSW can accommodate 90 students for their event so, to avoid disappointment, be quick and register online at the Siemens site shown below.

Last year the Outreach Centre for Science organised and conducted a very successful three-day The Siemens Science Experience program for students entering Year 10 in 2006.

The 2005 UNSW Siemens Science Experience was held from Wednesday 28th to Friday 30th September. The program included three days of extensive hands-on science experience organised by the local director, Mrs Prem Kumar, with help from members of the Young Scientists of Australia led by Checks Tang.

This science education program is managed nationally by the Science Schools Foundation Inc., and sponsored by Siemens Ltd. It aims to introduce students to as many aspects of science, engineering and technology studies as possible, with the hope that they will continue these studies in upper secondary school years and at university. The program has the strong support of the Australian Science Teachers Association and Rotary. Rotary Clubs support the program through sponsoring many students and arranging accommodation.

The feedback from students and parents was very positive. The event was reported in several local newspapers.
