Faculty teachers honoured

The Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education has honoured 8 UNSW Faculty of Science staff members for their contribution to student learning.

The Institute has awarded them Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning to UNSW as part of the 2007 Australian Awards for University Teaching.

The Carrick Citations are part of the Australian Government’s expanded programme of national awards designed to recognise and reward teaching excellence in the higher education sector.

“I am delighted to see the commitment to student learning by UNSW staff rewarded, both personally and across the board for UNSW, in such a public way,” says Professor Richard Henry, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).

The citations went to the following Faculty of Science academic and professional support staff members:

Professors Alan Crosky, Mark Hoffman and Paul Monroe, and Belinda Allen, Faculty of Science and UNSW Learning and Teaching Unit.

"For creating a bridge between material engineering and real-world applications, and engaging students from multiple backgrounds."

Associate Professor Jacquelyn Cranney, Dr Sue Morris, Dr Branka Spehar and Dr Ben Newell, Faculty of Science.

"For engaging first year students by personalising the large class experience and promoting life-long learning skills."

Each year the national teaching awards focus on a particular area of priority. In 2007 this area was team teaching.
