What is ET?

Definition

education technology examples
Education technology is the term used to describe a wide range of computing technology used in some way to facilitate learning and teaching. Technology may be integrated as one small component of a course (i.e. Learning Objects) or it may be used for the delivery of a whole course. Examples of the uses of education technology include:

  • Text based material delivered online;
  • Email, electronic file transfer, computer conferencing, synchronous and asynchronous chat;
  • Visual materials such as graphics, animations and modelling systems;
  • Web based course information, course content and support material;
  • Presentational software, such as Powerpoint, used in a lectures or online;
  • Tools for searching and accessing information, including search engines and library databases;
  • Questions and automated assessment systems either online or stand-alone;
  • Databases used in laboratory experiments;
  • Data analysis or statistical software packages;
  • Audio conferencing and audio files used in lectures or on the web;
  • Video conferencing, video clips and video on the internet;
  • Computer-based interactive applications such as CD-ROMs, CBT modules (multimedia) etc;
  • Interactive learning environments (eg WebCT) containing on-line tutorials, E-mail, online group work and conferencing tools;
  • Web based materials produced by students as part of their course of study.
