Entry requirements

Assessment for Entry

Selection for undergraduate programs at UNSW is based on academic merit by assessment of completion of matriculation through secondary studies or special programs offered by UNSW (eg. Foundation Studies or UPP).

Assumed Knowledge

It is assumed that students entering Science programs at UNSW have a sound background in both Mathematics and Science (as relevant to their chosen Major).

Note: entry is based on overall academic performance thus students without the appropriate background in Mathematics or Science are eligible to apply. However, students are strongly encouraged to complete the appropriate Bridging Courses or the Mathematics Skills Program offered by UNSW to ensure they have the appropriate level of knowledge to undertake their chosen program of study.

Australian NSW HSC students

It is assumed that you have completed Mathematics and 2 units of any Science. Chemistry and Physics are recommended for most majors. Completion of General Mathematics or Senior Science are not considered adequate for entry.

We recommend to all students entering senior high school in NSW (Years 11 and 12) to choose at least Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, or Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry. This subject choice will provide you with an appropriate background to choose almost any program of study in Science at UNSW. Choosing higher levels and more Science subjects will open your options even wider.
